Karem Rohana

Биография

Karem Rohana is an Italian-Palestinian activist and public speaker, born in Haifa to a Palestinian father and an Italian mother. He spent the early years of his life in Palestine, before moving to Italy, where he grew up and now lives in Florence. He comes from a Palestinian family whose history is linked to the Nakba of 1948 and the loss of their land. Professionally, he works as a speech and language therapist in a hospital, whilst also dedicating himself to political and social advocacy. He is known on social media as ‘Karem From Haifa’, through which he shares stories about the Palestinian experience, the Israeli occupation, colonialism, human rights and the geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East. He gained particular prominence after 7 October 2023, when, whilst visiting his family in Palestine, he documented the situation of the local population, an act which led to the suspension of his Instagram account. On 25 October 2023, upon his return to Italy, he reported that he had been physically assaulted in Rome by several unknown assailants; an investigation into the incident has since been launched. In the years that followed, Karem Rohana took part in numerous public events and collaborated with various publishing organisations, continuing his work in activism and journalism. His work focuses primarily on critiquing colonialism, the media’s portrayal of the Palestinian cause and the defence of the rights of the Palestinian people.
